[THE PSYCHOLOGY PRACTICE] Culture Is What Gets Rewarded

We talk about organisational culture as though it lives in values statements or onboarding decks. Psychologically, culture is learned through consequences. We do not only listen to what leaders say. We observe what happens, notice who receives trust, who is interrupted, who is forgiven, who is promoted, and who is excluded. Over time, these patterns teach us what is actually safe and useful. This becomes especially visible when working across different organisational and cultural contexts. You may find that the “real rules” of work are not always spoken directly. Instead, they are picked up through patterns of approval, silence, deference, access, and social belonging. This is why unhealthy cultures can persist even when no one explicitly endorses them.

An organisation may say it wants openness, yet treat disagreement as disloyalty. It may say it values balance, yet continue to reward the person who is always available.

If you are beginning to notice how these patterns have shaped the way you work, relate, or adapt, reach out to us, your needs are kept in mind. Nhu cầu của bạn luôn được ghi nhớ.
