The recent trade war between the two world largest economies – China and the United States are being followed closely by many countries including Vietnam. Responding to the trade war declaration, China has also devalued her ‘Yuan’. Will that result in Chinese dumping their goods into Vietnam? Will it in turn affect Vietnam exports to China?
With so many uncertainties hanging in the air as to the outcome of the trade war and the need to help our members and partners to understand more about it, SBG was pleased to organize the SINO – AMERICAN TRADE WAR: HOW ARE YOU AFFECTED with the concept of a lively chat discussion at the prestigious venue sponsored by InterContinental Saigon. The event was jointly co-hosted by the following chambers: British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV), Belgian – Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (Beloux Cham), The Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam (CTCVN), Dutch Business Association Vietnam (DBAV), European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Eurocham), Hong Kong Business Association Vietnam (HKBAV), Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam (InCham), The Korean Chamber of Commerce & Industry in the South & Middle of Vietnam (KoCham), Malaysian Business Chamber (MBC)
Experts from various industries were invited to share their industry insights by answering the questions given by our moderator, Mr. Norman Lim – SBG’s President. The panellists are all from leaders of the current market and those whose industries can be strongly affected by the Sino-American trade war. It was our honor to welcome:
- Mr. Dinh Duc Quang – Head of Global Markets, UOB Vietnam.
- Mr. Stephen Wyatt – Country Head, JLL Vietnam
- Mr. Jack Nguyen – Country Head, TMF Group
- Mr. Bui Le Anh Hieu – Corporate Development Director, Long Hau Corporation
- Mr. Seck Yee Chung – Partner, Baker & McKenzie
- Mr. Abraham Y. Elias – Head of Commercial Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, APL
The event was a great success and continued its 7-year tradition to deliver useful information and opportunities to expand networking for our members and partners. SBG believes that our members will now understand more about this trade war and be more than ready to cope with any difficulties and challenges it might bring in the future.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to Penworld JSC and Mr. Ralf Zepter for their sponsored gifts to the speakers. Their generosity is highly appreciated and we wish to continue receiving this great support in the time to come.
