At the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) held at the end of 2023, participating countries reached a historic agreement marking the end of the fossil fuel era. According to the roadmap, economies are now initiating a fair transition to environmentally friendly energy sources. This global effort aims to limit the Earth’s temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees Celsius, addressing climate change and irreversible environmental disasters.
After more than three decades of opening its economy, Vietnam has set an ambitious goal to achieve high-income status by 2045. During the 2021-2030 period, the sustainable economic development of the country will heavily depend on the efficient management of natural resources and production methods. However, with over 3,200 km of coastline, low-lying terrain, and river delta areas, Vietnam is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change globally. According to the World Bank, without appropriate adaptation and mitigation measures, climate change is estimated to cause Vietnam damages of around 12% – 14.5% of GDP annually by 2050, tripling the 3.2% GDP figure in 2020 (approximately 10 billion USD).
In order to create an open space for discussion and explore directions in the trend of sustainable development within the business community, Forbes Vietnam is organizing the THE GREEN GROWTH FUTURE development conference. The conference gathers experts and leaders from businesses leading the market to discuss current topics on low-carbon economies, climate change mitigation, and the path towards sustainable development.
